The Bedford Kite and Motoring Festival will take place this weekend - 24 and 25 June 2023.

Following the successful introduction of the motoring element in 2019, this family-focused festival includes a whole host of motor vehicles, kite flyers, vegan fare, music, food and drink, river entertainment and children’s activities.

There will be a dedicated area for families of children and young people with special educational needs and / or a disability (SEND). We hope that the festival will be inclusive to all.

We are handing over the spotlight to some very talented performers who will
be putting on concerts throughout the weekend. Bring a blanket, head to the bandstand in Mill Meadows, grab some refreshments and sit back & relax.

This Sunday, the Royal British Legion’s Armed Forces Day Parade takes place in Bedford Town Centre, providing us all with the chance to come together and show our support for the people who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to service families, veterans and cadets.

At 10.30am, the military parade will commence its journey from Bedford School on De Parys Avenue, proceeding along the High Street until it reaches Riverside Square.

At 11am, a solemn 2-minute silence will be observed at Riverside Square.

Following the silence, the festivities will carry on at Harpur Square, featuring an array of military vehicles on display, delectable food and drinks, and an impressive line-up of entertainment.

This week we honour the countless individuals who made that momentous journey and commemorate 75 years since the arrival of His Majesty's Transport (HMT) Empire Windrush.

Saturday 24th June, 12.30 - 4.30pm, Windrush Weekend with presentations, performances, learning and more at the Harpur Suite, Harpur Square, Bedford, MK40 1LE.

Sunday 25th June, 12.30 - 5.30pm, Big Sunday dinner! Music, poetry, delicious food and much more - admission £5 - Harpur Suite, Harpur Square, Bedford, MK40 1LE.
