Bedford Borough Council has launched its Warm Spaces Network. This is a list of places throughout the borough that people can go to during the day to keep warm as we enter the colder months.

Working with voluntary and community groups across the borough, the Warm Spaces Network currently includes libraries, church halls and community centres. As more venues join the initiative, they will be added to the directory.

The online directory will allow residents to choose a Warm Space based on location, opening hours and the facilities on offer, such as refreshments, free Wi-Fi, TV, books, magazines and games. You may want to simply spend time chatting with others over a hot drink. Please check opening hours and the different offers before visiting as they will vary.

Cllr Louise Jackson, Portfolio Holder for Health and Wellbeing said, “These safe, Warm Spaces will not only help people keep warm but be places to access information, reduce isolation and loneliness and generally improve health and wellbeing. Many of the Warm Space venues already have a community role such as faith and community groups.”

Dave Hodgson, Mayor of Bedford Borough said, “We know many residents are concerned about energy prices and keeping warm. In addition to the Warm Spaces Network we have set up a Cost of Living webpage with advice on help with energy bills and other costs, and through the Sustainable Warmth scheme funding is available to help residents to improve their energy efficiency.”

The council is contacting parish councils and community and voluntary groups across the borough asking if they would like to join the network.
