Mayor Dave Hodgson Hosts Climate Action Event

22 March 2022

Over the last weekend of March, Bedford Borough Council will be hosting the Mayor’s Climate Action Event in Bedford Town Centre. The event is being held to help both residents and local businesses take steps to become more sustainable.

On Friday 25 March from 8am to 12pm, the Council is holding a business morning in the Howard Room at Bedford Corn Exchange.

It will feature a range of dynamic stall holders providing useful information on how businesses can become more sustainable and access funding to make their premises more energy efficient and drive down the costs of their utility bills. There will be speakers from the Council, BPHA, Robinson & Hall Chartered Surveyors and the Green Business Network as well as an opportunity to network with other local organisations over light refreshments.

Then, on Saturday 26 March from 10am to 4pm, the Council will be holding a Residents’ Fair in Harpur Square and the Harpur Suite at Bedford Corn Exchange.

It will be an opportunity for residents of Bedford Borough to come together and find out more about reducing their carbon emissions, using sustainable transport, saving money on their energy bills and much, much more. Stalls and stands will be staffed by local businesses and organisations that have a commitment to net-zero.

Dave Hodgson, Mayor of Bedford Borough, said: “Bedford Borough Council is ambitious about tackling climate change. We’ve been clear about our plans to become carbon neutral by 2030 and want to play a positive role in facilitating local businesses and residents to reduce their carbon emissions too.

“The event is one of the many steps we’re taking to engage with people in the borough to ensure they can access relevant and up to date information on becoming more sustainable.

“There’s been a fantastic response from the community to lots of our recent climate action initiatives and we want to build on the responsiveness of local businesses and residents and work together to tackle climate change.”

The Council is encouraging people to use sustainable forms of transport to get to the events, such as public transport, walking or cycling, though parking will be available for those who need it.
