The first graduates of the Bedford College and Jagged Edge academy are now ready for clients – after a fast-track course.
The cohort will join the Jagged Edge salons and the fast-growing range of ‘pods’, the first of which opened at Kempston Interchange
Entrepreneur Zak Resinato teamed up with Bedford College to make the most of the growing fashion of modern barbering.
Zak needed to ensure he has a team of quality-trained barbers to cope with demand. Together they launched a full-time barbering course which combined college with work experience.
Now a second squad is sought and auditions are being held at Bedford College’s High Street salon Brooks, on Wed June 3rd from 6pm – 9pm.
Trainees, aged from 16 upwards, will be based at Bedford College’s High Street training salon but will undertake weekly work experience at Jagged Edge venues in Bedford High Street, Sandy, Clapham and the Interchange Retail Park at Kempston.
“The only thing holding our business back from going nationwide is a lack of staff trained the Jagged Edge way,” said Zak, who at 28 has won a Young Entrepreneur title and was a finalist in an East of England Business Awards,
“I was a trainee with Bedford College and have worked closely with them over the years. They understand what businesses need to grow and employ more staff.”
Assistant Director of Hair and Beauty Kerry Attfield said: “This is all about employability – getting young people trained to keep up with the demands of businesses who are expanding. It is great to be working with such a go-ahead employer as Zak.”
Students will complete Maths and English qualifications through the college, if they do not already have them. They will complete the course with a nationally recognized qualification and an extra special certificate from the Jagged Edge Academy.
