Taxi Marshalls keeping the town safe

31 March 2015

BedfordBID has again supported the safety of visitors to the busy High Street scene on Friday and Saturdays by funding the Taxi Marshalls.

At an annual cost of £15,000 the sponsorship of the Taxi Marshalls has been paid for by town centre businesses year on year via the Business Improvement District levy.

BID Board member Paul Dawson  of The Rose pub in the High Street said: “Pubs and clubs in the town centre play an important part in the local economy – day and night. We value the BID giving something back to us and our customers by backing the Taxi Marshall service which disperses people at home time, quickly and safely.”

Taxi Marshalls currently operate in Bedford High Street every Friday and Saturday night, from 2330 hrs until 0400 hrs. There are two Taxi Marshalls on a Friday and three on a Saturday.

The purpose of the Taxi Marshalls is to assist bona fide licensed cabs to use the lay-bys, and to assist members of the public towards these vehicles.

Taxi Marshalls also work with the Police and local council on safety issues around the night time economy.
