Bedford Learning Centre successes

11 December 2014

Bedford Borough Mayor Dave Hodgson presented certificates to some of the 100s who achieved IT qualifications at Bedford College’s High Street Learning Centre.

Dave is among the 1 in 10 of the local population who have studied at Bedford College (or Mander as it was known until 20 years ago). He said that in 1977 his teacher told his class to get to the Cauldwell Street campus: “where they had the only computer in town”.

Now Bedford College trains 1,000s in IT skills, from beginners at its Learning Centres in Bedford, Luton, Milton Keynes and Rushden, to World Skills level students who attend full-time courses.

The Bedford Learning Centre awards ceremony was held at the Cauldwell Street Studio Theatre where family and friends applauded the efforts of those who had signed up for the simple to access courses at the High Street venue.

Principal and CEO of Bedford College Ian Pryce CBE told the audience that the organisation had another record-breaking year and was looking forward to helping 1,000s more on to Higher Education, apprenticeships and employment in 2015.
