A new police hub has been opened in Lime Street Bedford which will be open to the public Mon-Fri 9 am - 5pm.

The old Greyfriars station has closed. People can also contact the police in the usual way via www.bedfordshire.police.uk, the non emergency number, 101, or in an emergency 999.

The news has been welcomed by the Board of the BedfordBID. 

Said BedfordBID Director Christina Rowe: 

“Businesses in Bedford have helped to finance Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) in the town centre via the BID levy as we needed a more visible uniformed presence in the town centre to  make sure our shoppers and staff feel secure. 

“Our Board, which represents 500 large and small levy-paying businesses know that the problems we face on Bedford’s streets are the same in other towns and cities. BIDs in Luton and Milton Keynes are also contributing to PCSOs in their centres. 

“We are working closely with Beds Police to make sure we maximise the service for our town centre businesses, who in addition to the BID levy, pay Business Rates, and, the owners and employees who live locally, will be Council Tax payers too. So is it is not unreasonable for the BID to ask that they get their fair share of policing in Bedford. 

“We know front-line police officers are under pressure. so we are doing all we can to help by being a link sharing information and intelligence about problems faced by businesses with the police.”
