Talent erupted on to the catwalk at the Bedford College Hair and Beauty Show before an audience of more than 500
Demonstrating that creative, cutting-edge style abounds, students from BROOKS, the college training salon on the High Street, and their models wowed the crowd.
Vintage versus Modern was the theme, with a sound track to match, and with categories such as Burlesque to London Poppies, 1950s to the Year 3,000, the Bedford Corn Exchange display was simply outstanding.
For new Bedford College Assistant Director (Hair and Beauty) Kerry Attfield this was her first show. The event was launched more than a decade ago by a predecessor Jacky Jones, who was in the audience as a VIP judge from City & Guilds. Said Kerry Attfield: “I just want to thank the staff and students for all their hard work especially show co-ordinator Alison Meeks and Holly Virtue for compering the evening. And all of our professional judges.”
Principal and CEO of Bedford College Ian Pryce CBE said: “We have given ‘glamour over-load’ to the town tonight. I would like to thank the audience for their enthusiasm and employers for continuing to support professionalism through training.”
He introduced Hair and Beauty employer Kerry Cash from 5th Avenue to present the prizes. Kerry is also Vice Chair of BedfordBID which sponsored the prizes for the evening by donating £1,000 of Love Bedford shopping vouchers – which can be redeemed in more than 250 outlets, including salons, in the town centre.
Said Ian: “Kerry is a tireless ambassador for Bedford, a champion of training, a top employer and a winner of awards for hair and beauty and business in Bedfordshire.”
5th Avenue Kerry congratulated the college on a “fabulous” evening and said every young trainee who had joined the catwalk with their model was a winner.
New for the night was the focus on barbering skills with a range of male models. These included the new Jagged Edge Academy which fast-tracks students towards employment. Presenting a special category of prizes for this was Sassoon stylist Alfie Barnes, now part of Jagged Edge.
Photos taken on the night by students, staff and family can be posted on to the Love Bedford FB to be in with a chance to win £50. Last post May 31st
