Love Your Local Market

21 May 2015

Come and join us in Bedford town centre this half term to celebrate Love Your Local market from Tuesday 26 May to Saturday 30 May 2015.

Once again, the council will be offering the opportunity for local residents and community groups to run a market stall for themselves. On Tuesday stalls will be available free of charge to market stall holders old and new, while for the rest of the week new starters will receive a 50% discount.

Along with the usual mix of markets the ‘Hand Made in Bedford’ craft stalls will be attending all week. There will also be children’s fairground rides and international food court in Harpur Square.

With the chance for residents and groups to run a stall free of charge and added attractions all week, there are even more reasons to ‘Love Your Local Market’ next week.”

Bedford’s market history dates back to 1166, when King Henry II granted the Royal charter which allowed Bedfordians to hold their own market.

A market was held on St Paul’s Square since the 1500’s until it was moved to the Riverside Square car park nearly 20 years ago. In February 2002 the market returned to its roots on St Paul’s Square and Harpur Square, bringing it back to the heart of Bedford town centre.

If you would like to hold a market during Love Your Local Market Week or you are interested in becoming a market trader, please contact Paul Jamieson on 01234 718676 or email markets@bedford.gov.uk
