Students from upper schools have been introduced to life in the town centre training salon, Brooks, run by Bedford College.
14-16-year-olds from schools across Bedford Borough and Central Beds, had opted to gain some real work experience in hair and beauty at Brooks on the High Street. For many it was the first time they were "out on the town"
14+ Senior Manager Hugh Rea said: “I would like to thank the students, and their families, for rising to the challenge of a college adult environment, where employability skills are learned. We are delighted that a number of 16-year-olds are now going on to work-place apprenticeships or full-time study in related courses at the college.”
Student of the Year was Emma Hall. All students were given certificates of achievement and special awards were made to individuals from each of the course who had made a real contribution.
Bedford College is Ofsted Outstanding for its work with 14-16 year olds and is involved with a number of schools in the county. In September 2016 is opening the BedfordTech where 13+ children can develop technology skills.
Bedford College also helped to secure the £25 Million Bedford Academy investment for Bedford and to set up the Bedford Free School in Cauldwell Street which is now full with 500 students aged 11 – 16 years.
At Brooks young men and women aged 16+ join full-time courses or study part-time whilst training as apprentices – adding a vital injection of youth and glamour to the town centre.
