Philharmonia Orchestra: The Young Mozart
Tuesday 20 March 2018
Bedford Corn Exchange, St Pauls Square
7.30pm
Zsolt-Tihamér Visontay violin/direction
HAYDN Symphony No.47 “The Palindrome”
MOZART Serenade No. 7 in D, K.250, Haffner
The young Mozart wrote his Haffner serenade as music for a party: a friend's wedding in Salzburg. So it's a glimpse into an 18th-century world of jubilant trumpets, spirited dance tunes and elegant romance, all drenched in summer sunshine. The Philharmonia’s Concert Master Zsolt-Tihamér Visontay leads from his violin – just as Mozart himself would have done – and launches the celebrations with a great burst of imagination and humour from Mozart’s friend Joseph Haydn.
